The 88-Inch Cyclotron is home to the Berkeley Accelerator Space Effects (BASE) Facility, which provides well-characterized beams of protons, heavy ions, and other medium energy particles that simulate the space environment. The National Security Space (NSS) community and researchers from other government, university, commercial, and international institutions use these beams to understand the effect of radiation on microelectronics, optics, materials, and cells. All persons to observe or participate in BASE facility experiments as badged users should complete this Affiliate registration process as soon as possible. If you have any questions during this process, feel free to email 88admin@lbl.gov.

If you have ever completed an application through this system as an Affiliate, Contract Worker, Facility User, or Employee of Berkeley Lab, and have an existing account, you may log in with those credentials. If you do not remember your username or password you can click the links provided to request assistance.


If this is your first time through the process click on "New User" and you will be prompted to create a login. Be prepared to create a username and password which is for this particular system only, and supply an email address that you are able to check for the purpose of registering as a Berkeley Lab Affiliate.


TIP: The username and password you select for this system will be used throughout the registration process to review and sign documents electronically so it's important to keep the information handy.


Once you complete this registration process you will receive an email containing a link to tasks and training that must be completed prior to your arrival. Once requirements are completed, the system will send you an email with site access information.
