The University of California Office of the National Laboratories (UCNL) in the UC Office of the President has governance and oversight responsibilities for the three UC-affiliated national laboratories: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The University has sole responsibility for LBNL, with UCNL having the lead role in assuring all aspects of Laboratory mission execution, operations and contract administration responsibility. For LLNL and LANL, UCNL represents the University in the management of limited liability companies (LLCs): Los Alamos National Security, LLC for LANL and Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC for LLNL. As a primary partner in the two LLCs UC has primary responsibility for assuring excellence in science, technology and engineering and mission execution underpinned by excellence 
in business and operations. In total the three National Labs represent an enterprise of approximately $5 billion in annual funding and 20,000 employees. 

Reporting to the Executive Director for National Lab Programs, the Assistant Executive Director for National Laboratories (AEDNL) supports the UCNL Executive Directors for National Lab Operations, Business & Contract Management, and Programs and participates with senior leadership at the National Laboratories and the Department of Energy (DOE) to establish strategic governance plans, objectives, policies and processes related to science, technology, operations, business and financial activities. The AEDNL will support and as needed represent the three Executive Directors in a wide range of venues including at the laboratories, with the Department of Energy (DOE), within UCOP and with LLC partner companies. 

Under the direction of the UCNL Executive Directors, the AEDNL will provide a broad range of guidance and policy advice to department management and senior leadership regarding aspects of financial, business, program and operational activities and ensure Laboratory adherence to applicable policies, procedures, applicable laws, rules, regulations, guidelines and policies. 

Under the direction of the Executive Director for National Laboratory Operations (EDNLO), will participate in activities to establish strategic governance plans, objectives, policies and processes related to operations at the National Labs. 

Under the direction of the Executive Director for National Laboratory Programs (EDNLP), may coordinate interactions and interfaces with Internal and External Advisory Boards, LLC Offices (LLNS & LANS), and the Science & Technology and Mission Committees.
