Position Summary:
Berkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division has an immediate opening for a CAMERA Program Manager to join the Center for Advanced Mathematics for Energy Research Applications (CAMERA). This is an integrated, cross-disciplinary center aimed at inventing, developing, and delivering the fundamental new mathematics required to capitalize on experimental investigations at scientific facilities supported and operated by the US Department of Energy. CAMERA supports interdisciplinary scientific research, algorithm and software development by teams of resident, visiting and remote scientists to deliver advanced mathematical capabilities to scientific facilities. CAMERA brings leading experts in experimental science and mathematics together by sponsoring workshops and seminars aimed at advancing analytic capabilities for experimental sciences through development of new methods, algorithms and software. The CAMERA Program Manager will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating and communicating CAMERA activities broadly, both at Berkeley Laboratory and with collaborating institutions nationally and internationally.
Supporting the CAMERA Project in the Computational Research Division, the Program Manager would have a strong background in program management and communication supporting multiple areas. Must have a talent to focus on ensuring the day-to-day activities as well as long-term outreach and collaboration objectives for the project are successful.
Specific Responsibilities:
Oversee administrative staff in organizing CAMERA workshops and seminars both at Berkeley Laboratory and other locations globally and addressing logistical challenges as they arise to achieve project success.
Actively participate in long-range strategic planning for CAMERA. Facilitates and supports program events and is directly involved in the planning and organizing of offerings.
Collaborate with CAMERA scientists and CS Area Communications group to develop and implement communication strategies. This includes the daily maintenance and management of website which promotes workshops and seminars, highlights scientific accomplishments as well as active and historical partnerships and projects.
Assist in managing relationships with sponsors, other institutions including DOE BES Light sources. Interfaces with Principal Investigators, program leaders, sponsors, external collaborators and stakeholders.
Develop, write and edit CAMERA annual report and other CAMERA informational material.
Prepare and coordinate budgeting and planning of multiple activities for the CAMERA center, including technical staffing, workshop preparation, new proposals, short and long-term visitor travel arrangements.
Coordinate utilization and assignment of CAMERA office space, from long-term staff to short-term visitors. This includes
Managing CAMERA member and visitor space throughout the year, including short and long-term visitors, work with IT group to coordinate IT needs for staff and visitors.
Responsible for managing travel of CAMERA staff and visitors —prepares or supervises preparation of travel requests and travel expense reports.
Develop scope of work and budget for CAMERA activities.
Monitor and provide reports on project financials.
Travel periodically.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field of relevance to CAMERA activities or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years work experience including program planning, proposal development, technical writing, website development, budgeting and operations.
Ability to understand science-related technical activities and project objectives at a high level.
Ability to describe highly technical science-related technical activities to general audiences.
Demonstrated experience with interacting and collaborating with a variety of scientific, administrative and technical staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present information on complex subjects in a form appropriate for sponsors and non-technical audiences.
Ability to build and develop relationships with team members, sponsors and other stakeholders.
High work standards and solid decision making skills.
