Position Summary:

Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Biophysics & Integrated Bioimaging Division has an opening for a Research Associate to provide research support for a program of brain imaging research. This project involves recruiting and scanning individuals using MRI and PET scanning. This position will play a key role in recruitment of subjects. The Research Associate will assist during the acquisition of PET and MRI data and be involved in quality control of images acquired, as well as data analysis of these images.


What You Will Do:

  • Recruitment of subjects to the experimental protocol.

  • Assisting during scanning, including assisting other research assistants and operating scanner consoles.

  • Utilize existing programs for obtaining quantitative metrics from brain images, including structural MRI scans, functional MRI scans and PET scans, to manage and log datasets.

  • Modify existing programs/processing pipelines using a variety of scripting or programming languages.

  • Prepare databases of quantitative data from brain images.

  • Analyze data using software for statistical hypothesis testing.

  • Prepare reports in both statistical analytic formats and graphs/figures.

  • Maintain adequate logs and records of all analyses.

What Is Required:

  • Undergraduate major in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, or related field.

  • Basic knowledge of statistics.

  • Experience using computer software to analyze medical images of the brain such as fMRI, structural MRI or PET.

  • Experience and proficiency working with statistical hypothesis testing software.

  • Experience documenting research results and record keeping.

  • Experience with human subject research.

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Good communication skills.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with studies of higher cognitive function (such as memory, language, etc) in humans.

  • Experience with Python or MATLAB.

Notes:

  • This is a full time, 1 year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment  based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.

  • Full-time, M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.

  • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.

  • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.

  • This position is contingent on the successful completion of a background check.

  • Work will be primarily performed at: Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA.
